Adaptive Human Capital’s President & CEO, Richard (“Rick”) Maher will be presenting at the Garden State Education and Training Association’s (GSETA) 2024 Annual Conference this month in Atlantic City. The premier conference for New Jersey’s workforce development community carries the theme “Ride the Wave of Innovation” and will be held October 23 & 24 at the Ocean’s Resort and Casino.
Maher’s workshop, “What is the Status Quo Costing You? – Leading a workplace nimble enough to embrace the future of workforce” will challenge leaders to shape a workplace culture that can help professional staff cope with (and thrive through) what Wharton psychologist, Adam Grant, has called a “permacrisis.” Maher has been a regular speaker at GSETA for many years, but this year, he says, is different.
“Workforce development professional staff are #dizzybusy today as they cope with Grant’s permacrisis – and the disruptive changes it has been presenting,” said Maher. “System leaders might think this is the time to press “pause” – to give workers a break, but that is exactly the wrong response in these times. Preserving the status quo is costing them and their workforce time, money, and chronic stress! Great leaders don’t press pause now – they press fast forward!”
This interactive session will share insights on how leaders can and should introduce “challenge stress” -- creating an environment of innovation and purpose for their teams that will help staff better cope with the uncertainty of change. We’ll offer practical strategies to create a “growth mindset” – embracing the opportunity in these times – fostering better balance for your workplace and improved value of the services you deliver, and we’ll highlight real-world innovations from around the Nation’s workforce system that are already improving staff efficiency and customer value leveraging modern technology (including generative AI). Both leaders and staff will leave with new strategies to make work both challenging and fun again!
“We are entering into what may be the most challenging period in our lifetimes for workers and businesses alike,” said Maher. “This permacrisis is causing turn-over, burnout and lost productivity, and we need to create more @adaptive_humans and organizations now. So, we’ll begin October 23rd in Atlantic City!”
